Course overview:

This is a transformative course designed to empower mental health professionals with vital self-awareness skills in the context of treating children through play therapy. Participants will explore the symbiotic relationship between personal growth and therapeutic efficacy. Through experiential learning, introspective exercises, and case studies, this course fosters a deep understanding of how personal biases, emotions, and triggers can influence therapeutic dynamics. Participants will learn to harness self-awareness as a tool to create a safe and effective therapeutic environment, enhancing their ability to connect, empathize, and facilitate healing in young clients.

 

You will have the opportunity to:

·         Develop heightened self-awareness: Explore personal beliefs, triggers, and emotional responses to enhance understanding of their impact on play therapy interactions with children.

·         Cultivate empathetic attunement: Acquire techniques to recognize and manage emotional responses, allowing for a more authentic and empathetic connection with young clients.

·         Create effective therapeutic boundaries: Learn to establish and maintain professional boundaries while utilizing self-awareness to navigate challenging moments, ensuring ethical and respectful care for children in play therapy settings.

  • Reflection opportunities 

Who should attend?

This Play Therapy Master Class is open to all SCCC Gold Members and past alumni of the SCCC Graduate Certificate in Play and Art Therapy Course. This course is limited to 12 people.

Workshop Facilitator - Dr Brandy Schumann, PhD, LPC-S, NCC, RPT-S, CCPT-S, CPRT-S

 

  

Dr Brandy Schuman is Clinical Associate Professor and Internship Director, Department of Counseling at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas.

She is a Registered Play Therapist - Supervisor who trained with Garry Landreth and has worked for decades as a play therapist in a range of settings including private practice, agencies, crisis settings and schools. 

 

Brandy simultaneously succeeds and fails in the life she shares with her family, which includes three human children, three furry, four feathered and two scaled ones.
